They've develop different "techniques" for swinging the wand around and they can create somewhat different bubbles and sizes. (one 6 yr old was *sure* that soaking the wand in solution for 5 minutes helped it make bigger bubbles, but let me say that this isn't true...)
I also recommend a stronger bubble solution. I found a home recipe for giant bubbles using dishwashing liquid. It's cheap, fast to make & you can make a bunch at one time. Works MUCH better than what is supplied.
We ended up getting about 4 of these wands because they are the popular choice when we set up a bubble station. Great for birthday parties, by the way, along with some kind of bean bag toss station. p.s. The sword type bubble blower we had was our least favorite - it didn't work for us at all.
