My little sister, who's Black, is dating an Asian Indian dude. I asked myself, "Have I ever seen a sistagurl-Indiandude couple before?" Then I thought, "Oh yeah! That couple from that Disney movie!" In fact, I think I'm gonna nickname my sister Princess Deee-ana based on that cartoon.
My sister said she'd keep these away from young children 'cuz she thinks they'd choke on them. I had to tell her they're not action figures, but items you'd put on a cake. (But I'm not trying to rush their relationship or anything.) I just figure if they ever want to play with a toylike item, they could have a wingding with these. She also said the figures aren't able to hold hands, as one may assume.
Did you see Halle Berry and Benjamin Bratt as love interests in "Catwoman"? Do you know that guitarist Carlos Santana married (another) Black woman? I just think this is a cute item for couples involving a Black woman and a (non-Black) man of color.
Nevertheless, I've spoken with friends (men of color like myself) who interpret Prince Naveen not as an Asian or LatinO, but as a Creole gentleman. Usually, I'd say brothas tend to marry sistahs lighter than themselves, but the reverse does happen. Look at President Obama and the First Lady. Don't forget George and Weezy Jefferson! So I also think this may be a cute item for couples consisting of a darker sistagurl and a lighter brothaman.
Everybody can enjoy this. Don't get me wrong! But this was my multi-culty/militant read on it. Have fun, y'all.
