I ordered both a premie and a newborn Middleton doll while searching for an attractive, realistic-feeling doll to use when teaching prenatal breastfeeding classes. I could have used a primer on the difference between the two (that's why I ordered both, but now am able to send one back) - so here it is:
PREMIE:
PROS
Looks physically more like a newborn
CONS:
Legs and arms are rigid (3/4 hard vinyl)
Head cannot swivel
NEWBORN:
PROS
Body is flexible and well-weighted - feels and moves much more like an actual baby (limbs are only 1/4 hard vinyl)
Head swivels
CONS
Body is too plump for my purposes - a newborn won't be so rotund and will fit into a mother's body better
Both premie and newborn are 19" long and the premie weighs almost as much as the newborn. I went with the premie against my better judgment because the face was more appealing to me, but the newborn's body works better for education purposes.
