DC Universe Classics Series 4 Action FigureAmazon Warrior Wonder Woman Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)"Merciful Minerva!" (to quote a familiar Amazon Princess). Wave 4 of DC Universe Classics by Mattel features a stunning rendition of Wonder Woman that reinforces this reviewer's opinion that Mattel is now on an even par with DC Direct as the best overall producer of superhero action figures for the mass market. In fact, I honestly believe that this figure ranks a close third behind the 'Wonder Woman: Series I' (by Terry Dodson) and the 'Justice: Series 3' (by Alex Ross) as the best Wonder Woman action figures ever produced.
The criteria I am setting forth are as follows:
1. Does this Wonder Woman figure accurately resemble its promotional photos?
Yes! As most collectors know, promotional photos (particularly, ones made public months in advance of the figure's actual release) can be rather deceptive, as one terrific figure is promised but then, the released figure will pale in comparison to the photo. In this case, I would say the promotional photo and this Wonder Woman figure are at least 90% identical. In other words, the resemblance is top-notch (although the figure is taller than she appears in the photo).
Also, I was impressed as to how the figure's face closely matched the photo. For whatever reason, some figures have barely visible (i.e. poorly painted) eyes, but you can clearly see this figure's radiant blue eyes from a distance.
I give Mattel an excellent grade on making good on its advertising for this figure.
Score: 10/10
2. Does the figure have much articulation (for display purposes)?
Honestly, I don't have any idea as to the number of articulation points this figure supposedly has. All I know is that it is at least functional in terms of basic movement for display poses. As a collector, my primary concern is that the figure can stand proportionally on its own without repeatedly toppling over. Since this Wonder Woman wears heeled boots, she probably needs a display base in order to stand up indefinitely. Unfortunately, Mattel doesn't include one with the figure. However, I discovered a relatively small base will work just fine for her.
Score: 7.5/10
3. Do the figure's accessories enhance the figure?
The magic golden lasso at her hip is adequate, but this figure can also easily grasp a distinctive gold & silver shield and a battle axe shaped like her golden eagle insignia. Mattel certainly gives you your money's worth.
Score: 9.5/10
4. Is the figure an excellent investment (or as a recommended addition to an action figure collection)?
Absolutely! If you can find it for a reasonable price, I highly recommend purchasing one.
Score: 10/10
5. What do I think, overall?
If compared fairly to the numerous Wonder Woman figures produced by DC Direct and other manufacturers in the last several years, I would say this version is definitely among the front runners. I really like its distinctive visual look (with her golden weapons), and, most importantly, this Wonder Woman figure meets all expectations one should reasonably have.
My final score: 9.25/10.
