I purchased this kit several years ago and in comparison with the same tank kit from Tamiya I found similarities and differences alike. From the construction aspect this kit was straightforward with little or no problems by following the instructions but to the letter as one would expect for a Tiger. Suspension of a type that is much different than on a U S tank is very complex and is copied on this kit. Follow the construction sequence or be disappointed. The track link sections were left to be placed on the hull of the tank and replaced with ones from the Tamiya kit of the same tank. Simpler that way and with weathering not a toylike appearence.
The remaining detailed parts went on with ease and the fact that the hatches all can be left open to show some interior is worth leaving them open for future placement of figures. The Tamiya Tiger Crew at Rest will fill the figure gap very nicely as Italeri has yet to make any decent figures of any WW 2 era men. The lack of a figure is better.
At fist I painted my lit copying the first Tigers in Tunisia North Africa scheme as I found it to be plain dark yellow instead of the green suggested. The yellow recently served well as the base coat for my updated ambush camoflage scheme and will go well with the figures. As there were only a few Tigers attached to the Afrika Korps I find my interests changing to European paint schemes.
I would not recommend this particular kit or its sister by Tamiya for the following reasons;
Very complex suspension system and the track pieces as individuals, copying the practice by DML.
Small detailing parts that make up a larger effect such as the handles and hatch details.
No figures, great to my liking but most younger inexperienced modelers might look forward to having "army men" included in the kit.
