While The Mayor is my favorite NBC character, Oogie Boogie is a close second. Voiced by Ken Page, he had a memorable song, had fun torturing people, and had a unique demise. He barely got any screen time aside from his song, but he sure wasn't forgettable. NECA did another great job with the sculpt on this Head Knocker, just as they did with The Mayor, but while I lucked out on the paint with mine, the bobble feature is severely lacking. This is now the third Head Knocker by them that I have that doesn't bobble at the head, but instead at the waist, and I'm beginning to see that this might just plain ruin the feature over time thanks to the weight of the top portion. But for a cool display piece to put on your desk or shelf, Oogie looks great.
Like I said, the sculpt is spot-on, and as soon as I took Oogie out of the box, I was impressed. He's not too fat, not too tall, and they nailed that mischievous expression on his face. They also sculpted in a bunch of little dots on his body to give him that canvas look, and it really adds to the design. NECA could've been cheap and just left him smooth, but they put in the extra bit of effort and get bonus points for that. Oogie Boogie stands on a base that looks like part of his roulette wheel that he fought Jack on, with some spikes and part of a ghost face on it. He's holding his lucky dice, and they're so small, you can't expect fine details on them or anything, but it's cool that he's holding them. And of course, you can't forget the couple of bugs and worms set in his mouth. Again, they could've just left his mouth plain black with nothing in there, but the bugs is a cool extra touch.
Sadly, he barely wobbles around. The back-left portion of his caboose is super close to his left leg, and when you tap Oogie, he'll bobble once really good, but then clank against the leg, and it'll render him still within a few seconds. The spring doesn't sound too good either- 'sounds like one on a well-used mattress. Maybe the lack of wobbling is from the majority of the weight being in Oogie's body, and the rest just being his itty bitty legs and the base, but I don't know.
At least he looks good, and the paint on mine was nearly perfect (only the dice were messy, and one tiny stray black mark from the eyes). Plus, the demand for NBC Head Knockers that aren't Jack isn't very high, so you can get this guy for a very good price if you look around. Overall, I'm happy with him, and will probably end up getting another since my daughter is constantly moving him down from my bobblehead shelf down to her book/toy shelf when I'm not home.
