Billie Burke As Glinda The Good Witch, Wizard of Oz by Tonner Dolls Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a movie purist, so I was happy to see that Tonner revisited Glinda and created a new sculpt that looks like Billie Burke (the actress that portrayed Glinda in the 1939 The Wizard of Oz movie), rather than the previous version which just looked like a typical Tonner doll. The costume is gorgeous and extremely detailed; thumbs up on this one! Needless to say, with the detailing, fragile wand, hat, and the price of this doll (gulp), this is a collectible doll, not one for the very young to play with and maul. It's still a little surprising that a doll of this price and caliber doesn't come with a Certificate of Authenticity or any other accompanying paperwork.

Margaret Hamilton As The Wicked Witch, Wizard of Oz by Tonner Dolls Review

(More customer reviews)Tonner really captured actress Margaret Hamilton (the actress who portrayed the Wicked Witch in 1939's The Wizard of Oz), and since I'm a movie-lover, I view this as a vast improvement over the previous doll that had more of a resemblance to a green Barbie than a Wicked Witch. Still, the costume still has a few touches of "bling" that do not seem faithful to the original film character, such as dangling beads on her purse. And for the nitpickers (of which I can be), the broom is somewhat off from the movie version as well. It would have been great for an hourglass to be included with this set, but I am sure that would have bumped the price point up even higher than it already is. As with most of Tonner's dolls, this one is not for play by the very young with all of the small pieces and fragile nature of the clothes/props.

(More customer reviews)I had to laugh at a poor review on this product. No, the Barbie Witch isn't ugly...of course she's pretty. When have Barbies ever been realistic or ugly for that matter? Haven't you seen/heard of Wicked??? Elphaba (the witch) is played by beautiful women on stage... So for those of you who are looking to buy an ugly Barbie... look elsewhere. This is a perfect purchase to a Wizard of Oz collection!
