DC Universe Classics wave 12 (or you could call it the Darksied series) skewed a little more obscure than some past waves. They also have some updated packaging. We have here Iron, the leader of Dr. Magnus' Metal Men the robotic super team.
For Kids:
He is a pretty neat toy with a few things going for him. One, he's a robot, two, he's got some cool hand accessories, three the Metal Men were featured on an episode of Batman the Brave and the Bold. He's cool looking and sturdy. I'd say kids might really dig this guy.
For Adults:
He looks very nice with a strong but friendly face, yet still steely (iron-y?) and determined. The iron symbol is sculpted onto his head and chest and his chest plate has little rivets around the edges as well as on his feet and hands.
His entire body is done in a dark tarnished metal look they managed to pull off rather well. Not a lot of variety to be sure (but it couldn't be helped) but still with enough variation to be interesting - as if he's made of old, strong, weathered metal.
No surprises in articulation - he's got, cut neck, ball pin shoulders, pin elbows, cut wrists, the universal hip joints, cut thighs, pin knees and ankles. He is missing an ab crunch and cut waist but this is due to the design of his metal man torso.
All the figures in this wave come with a little collector button, the kind you pin to your shirt, with little comic pictures loosely related to the figure. Iron also comes with two great hand attachments that emulate his ability to morph his hands. One is a ball and chain and the other is a large adjustable pipe wrench - which really has a wheel you can turn to open and close the wrench. They can be used singly or one on each hand. Both of these are cool and add variety for play or display. His other accessory is his piece of Darksied.
He's a cool and obscure if a bit uninteresting character without much extra.
The Collect and Connect, Darksied, is a welcome addition to all the Fourth World characters. He stands a fairly impressive 8 ½" tall. His craggy skin looks just a touch soft to me in comparison with an older (but smaller) version of the character I have but he still looks pretty good. There's good detail despite that and even the bottom of his feet contain all that Fourth World circuitry. He's just as articulated as his smaller counterparts and even has a couple of accessories. One, he's got a Mother Box he can hold in his hand and that also will attach to the back of his belt. Two, he has an interchangeable right hand, one in the regular blue glove posed to hold the Mother Box and a open menacing golden gloved hand covered in circuits and machinery. He's not as impressive as I'd like but still a very good figure who deserves 4 stars.
