(More customer reviews)I fell in love with this doll the instant I saw her at my local Target store. I love the dark lipstick, and I don't even mind the glitter. I kept passing on her, thinking I'd pick her up for less during a Holiday Clearance Sale or something.
I went today to buy her as an early Birthday present for myself. She was $12.99! I didn't want to risk not being able to find her again. For me, she was worth the price, just because she's so beautiful. I am disappointed in the quality of the doll, though.
If you've been collecting playline Barbies for at least 3 years, you're probably aware of the recent decline in their quality. One of the biggest changes was probably the shorter bodies that were introduced in 2007.
I know a lot of fellow collectors who were relieved to see the "bellybutton" body returning in 2008. Unfortunately, the return of Barbie's belly-button body is the only improvement Mattel has made recently.
One of those things is - she's got glue in her head! I guess Mattel got lazy and didn't want to root their dolls' hair properly, and instead threw globs of glue in there to keep the hair on their heads. This doll actually had some glue poking out in the back of her neck. I tried to remove it and ended up removing a strand of hair.
The glue in her head also makes it hard for the doll to look down & to the side.
Her arms are made of cheap plastic. I'm considering re-bodying her, which may be a challenge with the glue in her head!
As I said, she was worth it for me, just because I think she's pretty and I love her make-up. However, I'm not sure how long she'll last. The glue may react with the plastic her head is made of and she may rot away! Who knows.
For the time being, she'll be one of my favorite dolls. Its just a shame it won't be because she's up to par with the fantastic quality & care past dolls have been made with.
This may actually be one of my last Barbie purchases until Mattel steps up their quality standards to what they once were (at least).
