I didn't check the product specs before purchasing and failed to note that the item is over nine inches long and weighs more than a pound. This makes is much, MUCH bigger than any of my Schleich figurines, Safari, PAPO, etc. It's sort of the monster-hippo.
Size issues aside, this toy is extremely realistic and durable enough for a child to play with. The inside of the nostrils are a pale pink, the muzzle is dimpled, and even the teeth are yellowed and stained like a real hippopotamus in the wilds of Africa. The model is very accurate and the paint job is perfect. Overall - it was money well spent.
