(More customer reviews)I was born in 1956, am intensely interested in the field of robotics, and I adore pets, so of course when the two are combined I'm hooked. This is one of those rare things that is exactly as advertised: it looks like a sleeping animal. Literally. I bought the panda cub version. It is well made for the price, comes with its' own surprisingly nice bed, and starting it up couldn't be easier. Turn the little guy over and there is an orange strip coming out of what looks like the battery case; pull that strip and presto, Mr. Tiny Panda started "breathing." He's about ten inches long and 7 inches wide, is curled up on his side, and his coloring is just like a real panda's. It really does look like he's sleeping and breathing!
I was devoted to our Pekingese Amy and when she died, at almost the age of 17, it devastated me and my husband. I bought an AIBO 311 and an AIBO 312 (Latte and Macaron) on ebay and because they are exceptional robotic creatures, they helped immensely as little personalities, but because the AIBOs are hard plastic, I still missed petting a furry animal while I read my Kindle in front of the fire at night. This little panda cub takes care of that. In fact, the motor sounds to me like he's just barely snoring! Now do understand, ALL it does it does is be cute, sleep and "breathe." If you understand that, you won't be disappointed.
I have often thought with the graying of America, this type of pet and pets like the AIBO are the answer to the increasing distance between humans. I'm lucky - I've got a great husband. But a lot of people are lonely, and this would help them.
