Olivia 2 - in 1 Playset Review

This is my daughter's new favorite toy. On the one side, Olivia's house comes with furniture and appliances, plates of food and minor accessories like a book, a lamp, etc. It is cute and fun and my daughter absolutely loves playing with and arranging the furniture "just so" and moving Olivia around.
On the other side, though, is where the adventure begins. The pirate ship is the highlight (as far as my daughter is concerned) of the toy. She can sail the Seven Seas with Olivia (complete with pirate hat and eye patch), a treasure chest, treasure map and parrot. My daughter has so much fun switching from house to pirate ship, and back again. This is such a fun toy both for my daughter and for myself....it's fun to get caught up in playing with my daughter when we've got this playset out.
Now for the cons: I do agree with one of the other reviewers above in that it is kind of disappointing that this playset only comes with Olivia. We went and bought Olivia's family to go with this playset, but it would have been nice if we didn't have to do that. Also, on the pirate side, the palm tree is made of cardboard. Putting the palm tree in its little slot (to stand it up) and then removing it again over and over.....well, this palm tree lasted a week before my daughter ended up ripping the leaves from the trunk. It would have been nice if the palm tree had been made of plastic (like every other accessory in this playset.) It would have been more durable and certainly would have looked better. If I had thought of it, I would have had the palm tree laminated before I gave it to my daughter.
Overall, this is an excellent toy for fostering imaginative play and has provided both my daughter and me with hours of playtime and has given me some special memories of playing with my daughter that I will cherish. I don't necessarily consider this an "educational" toy per say, but the "fun factor" of this playset is absolutely out of this world. Even after she outgrows this toy, I will probably hang on to it for sentimental reasons. :-)

Playskool Rose Petal Cottage Mega Pack Review

Ok. So i bought this item for my then 4yr old dtr last year for Christmas. I didn't get this particular package deal; instead, I purchased everything seperately. I have everythign in this package EXCEPT the chair and the apron. So, I will reveiw the items that I have.
To begin, the house itself is amazing. It did take a few attempts to get the darn thing together (i may have gotten it on the first try if i had read the directions more carefully). Once we got that together though, everything else was cake. The house is like a painted fabric almost, that is stretched over a metal frame. This makes the whole house (both halves) very light weight and easy to move around. This is a plus since you can "nest" the two halfs within each other and it isnt too heavy for kiddo's to move around. Also, the fabric can be removed and washed if say, the dog mistakes the corner of the house for a tree... :) It's sturdy enough, too. Our cat lounges on the "roof" where the chimny is, and so far, it has held her weight. No bending or denting. The door opens up and secures again using a magnet which is very well sewn in and the little windows have mesh netting. The painting or print or whatever it is that makes the house so colorful is very pretty and quaint. I did not find it to be abstract or ugly in any way. The colors are very girlish but not so icky pink that you just want to puke! :D
As for the little "appliances", they are made from a sturdy cardboard like wood. I dont think it's wood, but more cardboard. But the cardboard is very thick and not like a cardboard box type material. It really is sturdy. The appliances are fairly light weight as well and were (at age 4) and are (at age 5) easy for my dtr to move around. We have the sink, stove, washer, baby bed and changing table. The sink is basic molded plastic fixtures with a water basin. I dont recal any moving parts on the sink. THe stove has knobs that click when you turn them to turn on the "burners". The washer has a little clear door on it that opens to a simple shelf where kids can put doll clothes (or in my dtr's case, french fries). The top is flat. The baby bed is like a little bassenet. It has slight rockers on the bottom so that the bed rocks a tiny bit. It will fit a standard sized baby doll, probably around 12 inches or so... Anyway, the changing table is pretty basic. It's a table with sides and has a slightly depressed surface and comes with a little mat for changing baby dolls.
As for size, this is a considerably sized toy. When the two halves are put together in the shape of a house, the total space is around 12 square feet - it's around 4ft long on each of the four sides. But, when nested, its half that. I have the house set up in an "L" shape in teh corner of my dtr's room. We dont generally let her move it around since her room is fairly small, but in a bigger playroom or outside, I dont think the size would be an issue.
When i purchased this product, i also got a play cooking set and veggies (including french fries) from Target so that it would give off more of a dramatic play feel. It has been an amazing addition to our dtr's playroom. I bought this product after watching an episode of John and Kate Plus 8. If it can survive 6 toddlers, it will definately stand up to my 1 kindergartener!! :D
I LOVE this product and would deffinatly recommend it to my friends and other parents!! :D

Playskool Wheel Pals Mini Highway Fleet Review

All of the Playskool Wheel Pals are a big hit with my son. Since he actually plays with ALL of his cars he owns, I have no problem buying him all the different sets. He calls them his Vroom Vrooms. We started buying these for my son when he turned one. He turned two a couple of months ago and is still just as excited about them. They are VERY durable, my son has DEFINITELY put them to the rough and tough boy test. The fleet sets on their own are MUCH more durable than the playsets.

If you're looking for a nice gift for a one-yr. old, this could qualify as one. I bought these for my 14 month old daughter, who doesn't own a set a cars and I was looking to get her started. I searched other cars, but the Playskool Mini Fleets out shined the competition. They are tiny, convenient, neutral (in color) and plain cute.

Olivia Figure Set With Vinyl Bag (Colors and Styles May Vary) Review

Olivia Figure Set With Vinyl Bag (Colors and Styles May Vary)

This Olivia playset is just OK. Not really worth the full-price cost. Some of the really small pieces are more annoying than cute. I bought these as extra items to go with the Olivia Two In One Playset, but many of the little pieces are duplicates. My daughter dies not play with these much. I would have preferred something slightly larger and with other characters as opposed to all the teeny tiny accessories.

Playskool- Push 'N Stack Gears Review

Playskool- Push 'N Stack Gears

After I bought this, I sort of had buyers remorse. I really wasn't sure if my 8 month old twins would be into it at all. I was wrong, they love it! They love both the gears and the critter. They love to chew on the gears, bang them on the floor and hold them. The handle/tail on the critter is great for little hands to push and pick up. I can entertain them for a long time, pushing this toy across the floor and having them chase after it. This toy is one of the first toys they go after, so glad I purchased it.

Playskool Mr. Potato Head Review

Playskool Mr. Potato Head

Ok - Mr. Potato head brings back memories of my childhood. I don't recall playing with him all that much as a child but its just one of those toys you have to have. My two year old daughter got quite a few potato heads & additional dress up pieces. We've got a large container that we store them in and its been daily fun! Some of the pieces are small (earrings & buttons) so we've had to remove those from our section...but she loves making him look different daily. It originally helped with learning the eyes nose mouth hands...and then helped with her speech as well. I'm actually kind of sad she can say potato now - its one word that she was completely stumped on for the longest time..."table-low" -- a toy that brings back memories from my childhood and makes memories for my children! A must have in every family!!! Additional dress up pieces can be found for affordable prices!

He's one goofy-looking potato--but that's never been a barrier to his wide "a-peel"! In this kit, preschoolers are introduced to Mr. Potato Head, the tater extraordinaire. With just 13 pieces, the options may seem limited--but only to adults. And once kids figure out the basics of putting Mr. Potato Head together, they'll want to move on to making extraterrestrial spuds: feet where ears should be, and so on. It's oh so silly! All the pieces store in Mr. Potato Head's body, but young ones will need adult assistance to snap the storage compartment door into place. --Ava Natov
