(More customer reviews)This is my daughter's new favorite toy. On the one side, Olivia's house comes with furniture and appliances, plates of food and minor accessories like a book, a lamp, etc. It is cute and fun and my daughter absolutely loves playing with and arranging the furniture "just so" and moving Olivia around.
On the other side, though, is where the adventure begins. The pirate ship is the highlight (as far as my daughter is concerned) of the toy. She can sail the Seven Seas with Olivia (complete with pirate hat and eye patch), a treasure chest, treasure map and parrot. My daughter has so much fun switching from house to pirate ship, and back again. This is such a fun toy both for my daughter and for myself....it's fun to get caught up in playing with my daughter when we've got this playset out.
Now for the cons: I do agree with one of the other reviewers above in that it is kind of disappointing that this playset only comes with Olivia. We went and bought Olivia's family to go with this playset, but it would have been nice if we didn't have to do that. Also, on the pirate side, the palm tree is made of cardboard. Putting the palm tree in its little slot (to stand it up) and then removing it again over and over.....well, this palm tree lasted a week before my daughter ended up ripping the leaves from the trunk. It would have been nice if the palm tree had been made of plastic (like every other accessory in this playset.) It would have been more durable and certainly would have looked better. If I had thought of it, I would have had the palm tree laminated before I gave it to my daughter.
Overall, this is an excellent toy for fostering imaginative play and has provided both my daughter and me with hours of playtime and has given me some special memories of playing with my daughter that I will cherish. I don't necessarily consider this an "educational" toy per say, but the "fun factor" of this playset is absolutely out of this world. Even after she outgrows this toy, I will probably hang on to it for sentimental reasons. :-)

Carnegie Collection: Dimetrodon Review

(More customer reviews)I admit, a few months back, I purchased this Dimetrodon thinking he was a dinosaur. Now that my child is actually studying prehistory, we are learning that he was a reptile, with mammalian characteristics, definitely no dinosaur. (We pretend ours is a male.) He's distantly related to modern mammals. Dimetrodon was a carnivore, and you can see his meat-eating teeth (he's named after his two sizes of teeth).
His wonderful sail allows us to easily see how he warmed up in the sun and just by turning away, or pointing it into the wind, he can cool down, regulating his body much faster than without the sail. Please view my two photo examples where I taught my preschooler how he uses his sails with the sun.
Yep, he's not quite as big as the product description, ours measures 4" tall and 7.25" long. Didn't bother me at all though, we have tons of the Safari Ltd toys and this one is perfect. I think the stock photo is too reddish, he's a tad more yellow and warmer looking.
We love our Dimetrodon. Beautifully painted, with all the details we wanted to see in our little Permian predator. As we collect prehistoric creatures, we're so happy that we get such an important example from the Permian (right before dinos) period.

The tea is pink and really looks like it is pouring. I love how the tea pot fits in the middle of the tray because it makes it harder for the kids to knock it over. Shakespeare Action Figure Review

(More customer reviews)Yes, Jane Austen was too fragile to be removed from the box, but the bawdy bard could not be contained. I must admit - I couldn't resist holding him. As he was more substantial than Miss Austen, I felt no fear or guilt for removing him from his plastic entombment. When my youngest son invited me to play a game involving action figures, I willingly joined in with my own "toy", Mr. Shakespeare, the original man of "action" (to my son's many giggles and snickers). Mr. Shakespeare has accompanied me to school (I teach high school English) and once spent an entire class in the pocket of a highly respected college professor discussing Twelfth Night (the professor was discussing - not Shakespeare). Mr. Shakespeare currently resides on the shelf of a bookcase where I keep my DVD's. He usually hangs around near the Hamlet movies (yes, I own more than one), but is currently residing with As You Like It. While he occasionally makes field trips with my other Shakespeare stuff (a rubber duck, a pen made in his likeness, various books, etc.), he still prefers to spend most of his time with actors (again - he sits with my DVD's, remember?).

Shure Daisy Girls Dress-Ups Book Review

When she was about 5 and learning to read I got panicked and decided to buy several books included this one (It's a wooden book). What a success! It was love at first sight, she's the kind of girly girl and this book was ideal for her.
The story is beautiful and is an interactive book. It comes with a magnetic wooden doll and magnetic clothing pieces to dress up the doll and interact with the book. Afterwards she told me that books weren't that boring. Now at almost eight years old she likes reading (The magic Tree House series are among her favorites) but I have to thank this precious book for a job well done! I highly recommend this book.

Children's Tea Set Review

They have a lot of beanie babies and other dolls, so they will set them up and feed them play food on these dishes. The only problem is there are only 4 place settings, so we really need more of these sets for our crowd of hungry stuffed animals! I think the set will hold up very well too.
