I am no expert as to come to dolls but I believe that Mattel was good at coming up with dolls that were able to entertain children all over world. Back to the late 60s early 70s mattel was brave enough to present the world with of a collection of dolls that not only did show values such as friendship and family but most of all there were black guys and girls introducing children to an interracial world which was admirable to say the least, considering that racism has been an issue for such a long time.
Sad but true, and I believe that children should feel at home with colours wherever they come from. it is true that at times Barbie's world was much too expensive but there were and there are many other positive sides to this doll. As to this particular Ken he is characterized by a positive and reassuring all-American handsome face plus muscular body without looking much to macho. Apart from his outfit which leaves much to desire the quality of plastic is good, he is sufficiently poseable ( but that has never been the strong point of Barbies and co.)The idea of coming up with all pink hearts if touched by a heart-shaped bag previously filled with ice is a bit mawkish but what the heck children will have fun all the same and that's a good question for teachers....how can some ice make my Ken's pants and bow-tie turn pink? As simple as it is , well that's a chemical reaction which can be useful at school without being pretentious or irritatingly too intelligent :-)
Collectors and children get a nice outfit for this handsome guy, Mr Ken and sipmly enjoy him for what he stands for....fun. He's a toy so please let's stop torturing kid with all that rubbish concerning boy/girl toys. Let's stop pestering gay people. A toy is a toy. If you buy a dinosaur you won't necessarily become a prominent palaeontologist :-). :Let's leave kids and collectors alone without issues that are out of the question other than ridiculous to say the least. Fun and fantasy can only help. Enjoy this handsome guy and live long and prosper :-)
