Barbie Ornament Collection Giftset Review

In this four-piece ornament set, Kelly doesn't just get to play dress up. She gets her own sized down versions of big sister Barbie's vintage outfits: Solo in the Spotlight, Evening Enchantment, the classic black and white striped bathing suit, and red flame. This really isn't a kid's toy. The outfits are not designed to be removed and the dolls are corded so they can be hung on a tree, wreath, etc. Very nicely done overall with both respect to the original outfits and Kelly's age.

Barbie - Groovy 60's (sixties) Collector Doll - Great Fashions of the 20th Century Collection Review

A great example of 60's styles, with some serious attention to detail. The only fault I find with 60's Barbie is her boots. Where did Mattel get the idea for these cloth shoes I keep seeing? They should be plastic. Go-go boots were NOT made of cloth! Otherwise, she's "groovy!"

Francie Doll Review

Francie Doll
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Mattel first introduced Francie Fairchild as a cousin for the Barbie doll in 1966. With a youthful face and real rooted eyelashes, Francie became a big hit. Slightly shorter in build than the Barbie doll, Francie had her own wardrobe of groovy clothes and shoes; and in 1972, returned in a new blonde version. Now, Barbie Collector brings back the blonde Francie doll wearing a reproduction of her "Smashin' Satin" outfit.
With her curly blonde flip-do, Francie is the picture of sunny innocence. The "Smashin' Satin" costume comprises a full-length electric blue strapless satin dress, with matching jacket and hotpants, so you can create several different "looks" by mixing and matching the pieces! Francie also wears baby-blue sheer stockings and low-heeled shoes.
Limited to only 8,500 pieces worldwide, Francie "Smashin' Satin" is a delightful addition to any Barbie collection!

Campus Sweetheart Barbie Doll Review

Campus Sweetheart Barbie Doll

Limited to 13,800 pieces worldwide, this Gold Label edition from Barbie Collector brings back the gorgeous 1964 "American Girl" Barbie doll, wearing a recreation of fashion cat. #1616, a strapless cream satin gown with a netted over-skirt of vivid red and pink tones.
The short bobbed "American Girl" Barbie hairstyle, circa 1964-65, is one of the most desirable to collectors (especially the 'sidepart' hairband variation of it). This repro features an ash blonde version of the "American Girl". Barbie also wears a matching pair of white opera-length gloves, pearl necklace, and pink open-toed sandals. The package comes complete with rose bouquet and trophy accessories, plus a removeable backdrop and dollstand for de-box display.
An elegant addition to your classic Barbie collection!

Barbie Solo in the Spotlight - Blonde Special Edition Reproduction Doll (1994) Review

Barbie Solo in the Spotlight - Blonde Special Edition Reproduction Doll (1994)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cutting a dramatic figure in a sexy black dress, Barbie looks every inch the sophisticated nightclub singer in this lovely 1960 fashion and doll reproduction.
This 1995 repro set includes a recreated 1960 'Ponytail' Barbie (aka Barbie #3), wearing the much-beloved "Solo in the Spotlight", a strapless figure-hugging black gown made of metallic weave, with a netted fishtail frill. Matching black gloves, open-toed mules, and a purple scarf 'held' in her hand complete the ensemble. To add to the flavour of the nightclub theme, a plastic microphone is included with the dollstand, so Barbie can 'sing' to her heart's content!
For one reason or another, this repro set has never appreciated much in value over the years. Thousands of these dolls were made throughout 1995-96, and most collectors have kept her boxed, so she's still very plentiful on the secondary market. A fun piece for the classic collector.

Black Haired Barbie Silken Flame Collector Edition Reproduction Doll of the Famous 1962 Doll Review

Black Haired Barbie Silken Flame Collector Edition Reproduction Doll of the Famous 1962 Doll
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This lovely Barbie reproduction set was produced in 1997. It brought back two of Barbie's classic fashions of the early 1960s: "Silken Flame" and "Red Flare".
"Silken Flame" is a strapless frock, featuring a red velvet bodice teamed with a cream satin skirt. Accented by a gold belt and red open-toed mule shoes, the outfit finds a perfect companion in the "Red Flare" dress-coat. "Red Flare" consists of a red velvet coat (lined in cream satin) with matching pillbox hat and white tricot gloves. The perfect finishing touch is a red velvet clutch-purse with a sparkling "diamond" button.
In the early days of Barbie fashion, Mattel designers utilised the current celebrity styles and fads when it came to creating the costumes for Barbie's elegant wardrobe. The "Red Flare" coat was no exception; being based on one of Jacqueline Kennedy's most talked-about outfits.
The set was originally released in dual-editions of either blonde or brunette Barbie doll, with the bubblecut (circa. 1962) hairstyle. I own the brunette version, which really sets off the red colours of the outfit to maximum effect. Thanks to a large production run, the Silken Flame/Red Flare Barbie repro set can still be found for very reasonable prices on the secondary market.

Barbie My Favorite Career Vintage Student Teacher Barbie Doll Review

This is one of the better dolls in the My Career vintage repros. Note that the swirl on her banks differs and some are better than others. But the clothing, look of the doll, and accessories make her a winner when deboxed. I have her on display and was really pleased with the purchase.

Barbie My Favorite Barbie: The Original Teenage Fashion Model Barbie Doll Review

Barbie My Favorite Barbie: The Original Teenage Fashion Model Barbie Doll
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
1959 Original Teenage Fashion Model Barbie Doll is the best repro of the #1 Barbie to date--but, it's still not a perfect repro. I've deboxed the doll, and so I'm evaluating it from the perspective of a deboxed display doll. The doll is very nice in appearance, and the reproduction of the Solo In The Spotlight fashion is excellent.
The quibbles: The arm molds for the vintage repro dolls are not accurate to the original dolls. The original dolls had divided fingers (index and pinky on the right hand, pinky only on the left hand) and the shapes were different from the reproduction body molds. Also, the #1 Barbie doll (as well as the #2, #3, and #4) reproductions should be manufactured differently from dolls meant to duplicate later dolls. The 'heft' of the doll should be weightier, as the original dolls had solid vinyl torsos and limbs. The skin tone is slightly too pink to be 100% accurate in my opinion as well. The original doll had copper tubing lining the holes in her feet. Obviously the repro doll should not include this feature due to metal oxidation issues, but some sort of metal lining would be a better match than no lining at all. The hair is also not a perfect match to the original, as the #1 Barbie doll had an extremely fine gauge saran hair material, in a distinctive yellow-orange color. This doll's hair is too glossy and too 'ash blonde' in color, and the doll doesn't appear to have the flocking underneath the ponytail that the original doll featured. Also, the hairline is placed too low on the doll's forehead, the original doll had a very high forehead. The face paint is a good likeness, but not 100% perfect. The brows should be slightly darker, and the paint colors are good but not perfect.
No collector is ever going to mistake this doll for the original, but it's still a great doll in its own right. Definitely worth the very reasonable price, and I would encourage anyone interested in vintage Barbie to pick this one up.
