As a collector of action figures, this doll gets my highest rating. As the title of this particular series states "Dolls of the World", the Carnival Barbie Doll does more than just entertain little girls, it teaches us all about racial and ethnic diversity (the greatest strength in American society today) as well as some aspects of South American culture. Anyone (adults and children alike) who cannot appreciate the fact that this collector's doll is "different" from any other Barbie doll in several, very good ways is probably racially or ethnically challenged.
Aesthetically, this doll is a beautiful collector's piece that would make an excellent addition to any Barbie collection. One more thing worth mentioning is that the eye lashes are rooted in, just like the hair. They are not painted on. This is a clear testament of the doll's collector quality. The costume is identical to those worn during Brazillian carnivals which is part of the doll's motif and meaning. I fail to see how this costume differs from that of a Barbie doll wearing a bikini. No one seems to be offended by that.
I highly recommend this doll to any collector who appreciates a fine work of art that embodies ethnic diversity. Any kids or adults who feel that the Carnival Barbie is too "risqué" should refrain from purchasing it.

Every year, for several wonderful days, the city of Rio de Janeiro transforms into the most extravagant city in Brazil. In a frenzy of music, dance sequins and feathers, the Cariocas (local inhabitants) and countless others celebrate carnaval. From the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana to the Old City and beyond, revelers don sparkly and exotic costumes and take to the streets. The flamboyant balls, boisterous parades and fantastic street carnavals that continue on throughout the festival are legendary.
One brown-eyed beauty enters the throng, ready to party! With pure joy, she joins the dancers and moves to the rhythms of the samba - a delirious mixture of African and Portuguese music. Instruments blare as people sing along the the incessant drum beats. This is the carnaval she will never forget. Barbie Carnaval is dressed in a detailed purple and pink outfit. Doll measures 12" tall.

I'm half cambodian and I'm very satisfied that the doll really looks like a replica of cambodian princesses. I'm amazed of the detail work on the dress and how the jewelry are well made. I bought one for my daughter and soon to buy more for family members.
