Be sure not only to have the 4 AAA batteries, but also a small Philips screwdriver to open the battery cover. I would also recommend to have rechargeable batteries, because they won't last more than a couple of days of normal-heavy use.
There are a few things that don't work quite well. First, the Barbie doll will not stay on top of the horse after a few seconds once it starts moving. Then, the set includes plastic "carrots" and what seems to be "hay", but the latter actually looks gross.
The horse only works on hard surfaces.
All in all, I'm satisfied because it was my daughter's favorite toy these holidays.
