Marvel Universe Masterworks Galactus with Silver Surfer Review

Marvel Universe Masterworks Galactus with Silver Surfer

Galactus (G), Devourer or Worlds, Wielder of the Power Cosmic! This is the guy you don't want to see showing up on your planet as he'll eat it - well suck the life force out of it anyway. Considered a natural force of the Marvel Universe he's immensely powerful and mysterious. This is the huge Marvel Masterworks version that comes with a small Silver Surfer (SS). Note: This is *NOT* the SDCC exclusive that comes on a giant blister card (and commands a high price) although it is the same figure.
Box - I don't usually review packaging but as it's nice and seems an integral element of this particular figure... It's about a two foot long rectangle and has a die cut cover with nice graphics of big G and SS. Flip it open to reveal more great graphics on the back side of the flap and you can see the entire toy, which is nice, and there's a "try me" hole to push the button for lights and sounds. There are nice graphics all around with a diorama on the back of G among 20 or so other Marvel figures. You can get him out without any damage to the box or tray if you are so inclined.
At first he seems a bit chunky but then you realize it's because he's so big! It's worth noting that he feels completely solid as if he's not hollow (except for the electronics areas) like some other figures in this size. He's got some heft! He's widely advertised as the 19" Galactus. However from his feet to the tip of the middle of his helmet I measured 18 ¾" but to the tip of his "tuning forks" I got 20" so maybe they averaged it out. Either way he's huge and gives my old Marvel Legends Galactus build a figure an inferiority complex.
There are tons of details from the lines and jewels of his helmet and determined expression to the lines of his suit down to the bottoms of his feet. The harness portion of his outfit around his chest is actually a softer rubbery piece, everything else is solid plastic. The back of his head is entirely of the clear blue which is the only odd piece but easily ignored.
His paint work is also very nice. Purple, light and dark blue, some black and skin tone on his face are all evident and all seems clean.
G is well articulated with a great ball joint neck with plenty of turn and tilt action, ball and pin shoulders with a cut at the bicep, double pin elbows and ball wrists also with great turn and tilt. The back of his gauntlet are also cut to allow the hand to turn there as well. There is no chest or ab crunch but that is likely due to the electronics. He has a cut waist that turns well and he seems to have ball type hips. Of course the hips are restricted due to his skirt (don't make fun of him though) but you can still move them in and out some and forward and back... He won't be doing jumping jacks though. He's got double pin knees, cuts right above his boots and his feet can rock forward and back. Depending on how you count it that's about 24 points and all are tight yet movable. He poses well.
I was pleasantly surprised that he does not just say 3 or 4 phrases but 11! While it's no Toy Story 12" Talking Buzz Lightyear that's pretty respectable. As some may wish it to be a surprise I'll not list them here but will in the comments. Push his chest button and he speaks and his eyes and helmet jewels light up yellow. The voice is a tiny bit silly and over the top - kind of like the world's biggest wrestler - but I can live with it as it's a neat extra.
And his accessory is a 3 ¾" scale Silver Surfer. You really couldn't ask for something better (although I'd love to get some pieces of the world eating machine) as SS is his most well know herald. The little guy looks fine but is a little under articulated making it hard to keep him on the surf board. Still it's a nice addition. He does also come with a little Fury File card with some story like text on it, a Fury File code and a Superhero Registration card telling some about his powers and stats. On a side note, I get that the SR card is maybe for kids and just an extra but it seems silly that this cosmic being would come down and register - including leaving his thumb print. ;-)
For the price (i.e. not the SDCC exclusive price) this guy is great. Huge, well sculpted and painted, poses well, has more phrases than expected and a little SS buddy. I can't even knock off for the wrestler voice on this one.

Galactus hungers! He eats entire worlds, consuming infinite quantities of matter to keep his massive form alive. As such, it might be a good idea to keep him in your collection so this 19-inch tall, articulated, and evil resident of the Marvel universe won't go out and eat distant galaxies. As an added bonus, this boxed figure includes a 3 3/4-inch Silver Surfer, his herald! Don't miss this one, it's one of the biggest things Hasbro has ever done for Marvel!

Well, it is more blue than silver and has white paint spots all over it. One arm and both shoes are completely blue with a small amount of silver paint on one side...and of course, lots of white specks. Definitely not the SILVER Surfer I expected.

This is very good figure as she has great sculpting and a incredible likeness as its pretty movie accurate. I recommend Marvel Movie/Marvel Legends/Spider-Man figures for age 10 and up due to the fragileness nature of the figures. Bottom line this is a must have figure if you are a big Fantastic Four fan! I stronlgy recommend this figure!

Although I don't own this doll I have seen it. Here's what I think. I think it looks like a cool doll. My mom thinks the "invisible" arms are weird. I wonder if her whole body is like that......................

Diamond Select Marvel Select: Thing Action Figure Review

I've waited a long time for this item and it was worth the wait. First it very heavy weighing well over 2 or 3 pound and nicely detailed. The only griped is that it do not come with the flying platform as pictured. It comes with a picture of the Fantastic Four on a card board with New York on the other side and a picture holder. The chest and rip cage do not stand out as pictured either. His torso is just all rocks with no clear muscle separation. Even though the pictured item is better than what you actually get, it's still worth the money.
