MARVEL LEGENDS ICONS " IRON MAN " GOLD VARIANT Review

MARVEL LEGENDS ICONS IRON MAN GOLD VARIANT

I'm an avid collector of Marvel Legends Icons 12" figures. Although the Iron Man figure is pretty impressive, there are some qualities that are missing. First, the positives: very detailed. Possibly the most detailed Iron Man action figure you can find. One reason why I only collect this series of figures. The only thing that can possibly top it in detail would be the actualy replica head of Iron Man or a statue bust but still you would not own the whole Iron Man. Extremely poseable. These figures are nicer than the DC Direct figure or Movie Masters DC figures because the latter two look more like dolls with clothy material and have less articulation. The gold color really makes it similar to the Iron Man in the movies but not exactly accurate. The head is somewhat disappointing because the face mask looks hideous. The effort to make it removeable so you can see Stark's face ruins the look of the face plate. Stark is not a man in superhero physical shape, however they might have made this figure somewhat too lanky and tall so it has a slight problem standing up by itself as opposed to more balanced and bulked figures like Wolverine or the Hulk (my favorite). Finally, the figure comes with nice repulsor rays that you can attach to the palms of his hands. However, and this what I don't understand, you can't bend his hands 90 degrees back with palms facing you because of the poor design of his wrist that locks any movement going to other way. That is so pointless given this is a common movement for Iron Man so he can attack his enemies with his repulsor rays. I can easily do this movement with my Wolverine figure so not sure what the deal is with Iron Man.

Terminator - 6'' T-600 Review

Terminator - 6'' T-600

The T-600 is one of Skynet's first attempts at a humanoid terminator before it downsized to the endoskeleton and perfected the skin covering. Sure his rubber mask isn't much of a disguise but I suppose he could get a bit closer than one of those giant terminators. On a side note I'd love to see T-600 get a bigger movie roll. Imagine how Halloween creepy it would be with this guy hunting someone in a dark battlefield wearing that creepy rubber mask!
All of the metallic parts on this guy are sculpted very well with the etchings in the metal skull being a highlight. He's much more solid than an endoskeleton so his metallic arms are actual full arms and not just spindly robotics intended to fit inside skin. The same goes for his chest and the exposed spine and leg areas. The remainder of his sculpt is his clothing, brown ripped up pants and green shirt and black boots. While it looks okay it is no match for the metallic parts and the clothing and its ripped out areas look a lot more toy like. He is also one big dude. While his endoskeleton cousins look a little small (coming in right at 6") he is big and bulky and about 7" tall which makes him a bit more impressive as a movie monster.
Because he is big he has good articulation with a head that rotates, ball shoulders and elbows, rotatable hands, ball hips that swing forward and back and out and single pin knees. His waist actually does rotate a short distance in either direction but snaps back into place. If this is intended to be an action feature I wish they'd left it out. One, it is such a short distance that it isn't much of an action feature to begin with and two it essentially means you can't pose him with the waist twisted and he would look a lot more dynamic if you could (Note: you can stop it by placing a small thin piece of cardboard into the joint from the back where it is not visable). He could also use some sort of cut joint in his hip to allow his legs to rotate some.
There basically isn't any paint. It appears that almost all the parts are molded in their respective colors. There is a bit of tarnish to the metal, especially the metal skull head that adds a touch of realism to those areas and some black wash to highlight the dirt on the clothes.
Last are accessories. He wears a pack back containing ammunition and a belt comes out of the top and attaches to a large black mini gun. The pack is removable and the gun has a hook to attach to T-600's wrist with the handle up in his hand. It looks pretty good with him holding it. His other accessory is swappable heads. One has damaged / melted plastic face remnants on it and a black toboggan. The other is the full on metal skull. I think both look fine but prefer the detailed metal skull. Both have the red window in the top of their skull to make the eyes glow when under light and this feature works better on T-600 than it does on 700 or RIP due to his bigger noggin and eyes.
Overall I really like this guy. Sure he's not the classic endoskeleton and could use a little articulation tweaking but still has a creepy skull face, a big gun, is big and scary and is easier pose or play with than his smaller but more advanced cousins.

Judgment Day has come and gone. The human resistance is no match for the machines of Skynet. They are weaker, slower and capable of feeling pain. But the humans have something that the machines lack - instinct and imagination. And they will have to use everything they have to fight back, take back the world and live on.
