(More customer reviews)I am an elementary school teacher and a child's vocabulary level has a high correlation to their reading comprehension. In a time of dropping vocabulary levels, this is a quick and easy game that has students checking the dictionary and expanding their vocabulary in a fun way. (I allow them to use the dictionary to check words or "find" words as they play.) I also "allow" them to expand to Scrabble and Upwords when they want more challenge. Students who never opted to play vocabulary games are now playing both of these.
I bought one game initially and just bought more so the whole class can play at one time. This is one way to expand their knowledge that they think is a reward.

Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition Review

(More customer reviews)My wife and I play scrabble regularly. We started using Super Scrabble instead of the standard game a couple of years ago and reallly love it. The only problem was that since the game is twice the size of the original scrabble, it took us more than one sitting to finish a game. The standard flat board was easily bumped and often our games were ruined by someone bumping the board. I even contacted the Scrabble people to see if I could get a deluxe board (with the rails) 2 years ago and was told that it was not being made...
and NOW here it is. no more ruined games from someone bumping the board!
We love the Deluxe game.
Only (minor) problem is the seam where the board folds does not always lie flat so the letters in that column can move around.
all in all, a wonderful addition to the scrabble game.

(More customer reviews)Hit the Deck comes from a great company, Fundex, the authors of classic games such as Phase 10, Rage, and many others. In the spirit of the company's other great games, this one does not disappoint.
Hit the Deck could be seen as a cousin to Uno. The basic rules are very similar: you match cards by number or color. However, Hit the Deck features less numbers than Uno, only going from 1 to 5. What makes up for this lack is the additional cards. Some will cause you to flip both decks. Others will make the next player not only cut the deck, but make them pick up the card they come upon and deprive them of their turn as well. Some will force the next player to "hit the deck" with a card of a certain number or color. Best of all, however, this game contains some real-life action and excitement. "Hit the deck with a hand" cards force every participating player to hit the deck with their hand. The last person loses and is forced to pick up 4 additional cards, so everyone's reflexes are tested to the max. This is perhaps the highlight of the game!

(More customer reviews)I love Scrabble and bought this item to replace an older set. I'd give it five stars, and it probably should still get five since the game is the same, but.... Here are my aesthetic 'issues' with this newer release of the flat board and wood tile version:
1) the playing area is not centered in the folding board; very displeasing
2) the tiles are made of lighter wood (pine instead of oak? I don't know my woods, but this one is light)
3) the tile trays are less rounded and more squared-off in profile (yes, this is very picky)
This game mas previously been produced by both Milton-Bradley and Shelchow & Righter, and both did a better job than Hasbro with this one. Consider the small travel version with a plastic grid and small, thick wood tiles -- even for home use, that's how disappointing this one is.

The tiles are a bit difficult to handle so you have to be a little careful with them, but this little baby is small and packs easily. I have played it a lot on planes and have taken it on vacation with me to play with people when I get bored. Its portability is its best feature. Just be careful not to lose the tiles.

However, it's important to note that the game is played by all players SIMULTANEOUSLY - which does get the pace picked up quite a bit. You have to be pretty quick in "slamming" a card down to create your new word while the other players are all trying to do the same thing. Thus the four-letter word is ever-changing. I saw the commercial for this game on TV and being from a family that loves games about to head out on a family vacation, went to Target where I saw it for about $5. We played it with four adults, three adults and two adults and during each of those scenarios, had a blast. It was fun trying to stump each other with rare four-letter words. My mom has recommended it to several of her friends who have grandchildren. It's a great game for kids learning to spell and to challenge their word skills. Warning: After several rounds of this game, you'll find yourself on the lookout for four-letter words all the time!
