(More customer reviews)We purchased this for use on our family vacation with our 3 children. They love the full-sized game that we have at home. The travel game is easily small enough to fit in a carry-on bag. It seems sturdy so far, although we have bent a few of the cards. The names on the cards are a bit small, and you have to occasionally look closely at the cards to make out some of the finer details (mustache, eyeglasses, etc.). Overall, a great learning game and perfect for travel. I almost think that this travel version is more sturdy than the original version because the cards don't fall out of the holders as easily as in our full-sized version. We were also able to play this game on a turbulent airplane without anything falling over, spilling on the floor, or getting lost. Highly recommend,especially if your kids like this game.

(More customer reviews)I have purchased numerous ThinkFun games. Our favorites include all versions of Rush Hour, Sudoku, Clever Castle, Zingo, S'Match, and Chocolate Fix. I've tried a few others which we like, but those are my favorite. This is a new one to add to the favorite list! Having spent the summer learning how to play Chess, I am very excited that we can use the rules of the chess pieces to solve logic puzzles. It is really, really well done! The goal of each card is to have the chess pieces capture the other pieces until only one is left standing. The game is set up in a grid, so that you can look up the answers in the order at which you need to move the pieces. Ex. A2 moves to B4, etc. etc. The chess pieces are in a sliding drawer underneath the case which holds the challenge cards. Just beware, the cards are difficult to get out at first. It took some effort to slide them out.

(More customer reviews)This is an incredibly entertaining game, reminiscent of the cardless "mafia" game many of us played in junior high and high school. It has become the game of choice among my friends and me in the last few months. Each player is dealt a role that he or she plays in the game (sheriff, deputy, outlaw, or renegade). All the roles are secret, except for the sheriff's. Game play proceeds as players eliminate each other in hopes of doing what is best for their role. The sheriff tries to stay alive and kill the outlaws and renegade(s). Outlaws try to kill the Sheriff, and so on. It gets pretty addictive and aggravating at the same time, but in a very good way.
Just read the rules and deal everyone the picture-instruction cards, and the game is relatively easy to understand. The game is the most fun when you have about 5 or 6 players. It doesn't make much sense with 4 (too easy to guess others' roles), and the pace slows a lot with 7 or 8 unless everyone is paying attention and knows the rules.
One small downside to the game is that it is an elimination game--when you die, you're out of the game/round until either the Sheriff/deputies or renegade(s) or the outlaws win. Usually this doesn't take very long, but it always sucks to be the first one out. When I play, I usually usually go through at least 3 or 4 rounds during one sitting. Also, for very conservative families, it might be noteworthy that "beer" and "whisky" cards heal your character.
Bang! The Bullet comes with several expansion packs that keep the game interesting and add new rules/restrictions that change up game play. Start with the core game first as you learn. Then you can add expansions later. It also comes with a nifty badge that Sheriff gets to wear.

The tiles are a bit difficult to handle so you have to be a little careful with them, but this little baby is small and packs easily. I have played it a lot on planes and have taken it on vacation with me to play with people when I get bored. Its portability is its best feature. Just be careful not to lose the tiles.

It is a great way to interact with your kids, see them solve challenging spatial problems, and enjoy the company of the entire family. We play it during breakfast on the weekends and it makes for a great discussion starter. Give it a go if you enjoy puzzles; you won't be disappointed.

Boggle Review

(More customer reviews)This version of Boggle is not nearly as good as the classic version. If you can find back stock of the old version at some out-of-the-way toy store, get that instead. This version has much, much smaller dice, so they are much harder to see, and it doesn't work for groups of more than three or so, and will not work at all for people trying to crane their necks across a normal-sized dinner table. There is a lid that prevents the dice from getting out of the box, but that cover has almost no clearance. This means that the dice tend to stay in the same slot, and you don't have too many games pass before you're seeing the same letter combinations. It really takes the fun out of the game. Additionally, the cover is easily scuffed up by the white paint on each die, so this version has only a very short shelf life before it becomes even harder to see the letters. Yes, the incorporated timer is nice, but how hard could it have been to include one without ruining the board?
The game itself is a lot of fun, plenty of opportunities for learning to spell in English or other languages, which is why I give it 2 stars. In a competition with classic Boggle, this is a zero-stars product, no question. Possibly it would be ok as a travel game, but not for game night.

Connect Four Fun On the Run Game Review

(More customer reviews)We have enjoyed playing Connect Four Fun on the Run, but it's flimsy construction. The collection trays pop off repeatedly. In addition, the columns that store the checkers have lids that snap shut presumably to keep the checkers in place, but they continually pop off as well leaving checkers scattered in the box. The checkers are small, and are easy to lose. Hasbro doesn't offer replacements for the checkers, so you really have to be careful when playing. On the other hand, the price is so reasonable, it's entertaining, and I think instead of buying a duplicate I would buy the travel folio version with zip-up pouch.
Overall, I recommend this toy, but strongly suggest the game be stored in a plastic bag, as it doesn't hold up well to the bumps and bruises of travel with the trays, and lids popping off, and the checkers rolling all over the box.

Pass the Pigs Review

(More customer reviews)I am a teacher and I use this game with my kids at school all the time. They LOVE it from grade school to high school depending on how you use it.
I don't really follow the rules that came with it, only the values of how the pigs land. I have used it often in an afterschool tutoring program were we often practice math facts and addition. I took the instruction sheet from the game, found the place where they have the pigs drawn and what the rolls are worth, enlarged it on the copier so all the kids (usually less than 6) can see it at the same time (and of course, colored the pig drawings pink!) Then each student rolls, finds what his roll is worth, and adds his score. The first to pass 100 points wins. We sometimes start with 100 and subtract our score -- the first to zero (or less) wins. We have played where I announce at the beginning of the round that "This roll will be multiplied by 7"..the kids all cheer "Come on doule razorback!" I was amazed how fast they learned what each roll was worth. I would have liked to try something with fractions, but my study group wasn't ready for that. (For example, you could make each roll worth a certain fraction and they would have to add them up at the end of the game.)
We have also used it to study for tests. I ask them a question and if they get it right, they get to roll. I am sure you could adapt it to lots of subjects. It is just a fun way to do rote things with a little more fun.
I have also used it with younger kids who cannot add yet. I drew them a 100 square (a little block about 3"x3" divided into 10x10 grid) and made a bunch of copies. Then they roll, find their score on the scoresheet, then color in that many squares with a marker. Nice counting practice, and visual of how much different coloring in 20 is from coloring in only 5. I sometimes ask them "Look at your paper and at Joe's. Who has more squares colored in? How many do you need to catch up?"
I really don't see any problem with the competing, and I sort of like the added benefit of learning HOW TO LOSE (which few seem to know) and other sportsmanship behaviors.
The only problem I have seen with the game is that the little black dot (on one side of the pig) wears off and I have to keep drawing it on with a sharpie. Also, after about a year, their little piggy tails are hardly hanging on. I need a new set.
GET THE GAME....have fun, change the rules, make up new ones...the pigs are the motivation...you decide what you want them to learn from it. OR learn nothing and just play. You'll like it.
