Mint Memories Porcelain Barbie Doll 1988 Limited Edition Review

This gorgeous porcelain doll makes a wonderful gift for the adult or mature young Barbie collector. Porcelain dolls are too delicate and breakable to be good playthings for girls.
First, I should state I bought my doll from an estate sale, so she is used and not in mint condition. She is missing her tea cup and saucer, which I understand is rimmed with 24 carat gold. You may have seen the photo of my doll: she is holding a plastic Rement cup instead. Otherwise, she is complete.
She is the first in a series of two dolls in the Victorian Tea collection. The second, Orange Pekoe, seems to be higher valued than this doll, but I haven't seen her in person. I believe she might be the only porcelain Barbie with an articulated neck, but I might be mistaken on this point. I have a collection of historically dressed dolls, which is why I was originally attracted to Mint Memories.
This is my first porcelain Barbie, and I was blown away with how beautiful her face is. Her facial screening is soft with pink blush and lips, and matching nail polish. She is auburn haired (not brunette) and has gorgeous green eyes. Her hair is done in a complex updo with lots of curls, including curly bangs.
Her outfit is removable, and is two pieces. The skirt is a mint-colored satin brocade with a bustle, lace ruffle, and ribbon and pink rose trim and train. It falls perfectly. The top is a puffy shoulder snap-closure piece, with pearl and cream lace trim, and a ribbon bow at the neckline with a tiny pink cameo at the center. The doll is wearing pearl earrings, and a tiny hat with netting, ribbon roses and mint satin, plus period-style booties to complete her Victorian era look.
The details of her costume and her gorgeous face make her a perfect addition to any collection--especially if you love historical costumes, delicate faces and want a unique and soft outfit to add to your collection. (She looks wonderful displayed next to the Wedgewood Barbies.)

Playmobil Victorian House Review

Playmobil Victorian House

I worked in a toy store over the holidays and fell in love with this Playmobil Victorian Dollhouse. That toy store offers free assembly, and I got to do lots of assembling, so trust me when I tell you two things: 1)Although the assembly is not difficult, it is involved, and it will take you 5 hours if you are doing it alone, so budget enough time for that, and 2)Glue the large roof pieces together. This will increase the storage space that the disassembled dollhouse will require in several years when your children are through with it, but it will make it much, much sturdier. The roof is the only thing that isn't incredibly sturdy, and it's fine with a touch of glue.
The detail on this house is amazing. The windows all open. The flowerboxes and garden urns have flowers with individual stems and heads, so your child can design and redesign the flower arrangements. Doors swing open on hinges. Flooring appears to have tiles or floorboards. And the staircases can either be installed or not, depending on whether your child would prefer more room or a more realistic house.
There is a companion item that you can buy that will add another floor to the bottom of the house, making it a three-floor house all together. Also, there are many sets of furniture available--all of which have all the details that matter to kids: the drawers open, the doors open, there is cutlery to go in the kitchen drawers, etc..
We have friends whose daughters have this house. They love it and have played with it for hours on end. Their older girl only stopped playing with it when she was about 12 years old! All in all, this is a wonderful, fanciful product that will be passed down from child to child for sure.
