Nightmare Before Christmas/Sally Action Figure S.1 Review

(More customer reviews)I was on a hunt for the sally figure because I will be using her as a wedding topper for my own wedding. I thought I was going to be disappointed by having sally be too tall or too short but she was perfect! and looks just like the ones used in the movie.
I expect this figure to last me my whole life unless I have children.
I would recommend this to anyone but children they should not play with these toys. hehehe.

(More customer reviews)With 72 cards (36 pairs)I think this is a little more than most 3 year olds can remember. I suggest using only part of the cards and gradually increasing the number of cards as the child gets older--otherwise, they may become frustrated and give up. I agree with the reviewer who suggested that the cards should be laminated. I am not sure how long they will hold up if used much. The pictures are all familiar objects that preschoolers will readily identify, and it's a great game for spending time together.
Update February 17,2009: Yesterday we had this game out again. My 5 year old grandson and I enjoyed playing the game several times and I must admit we make our own rules as we play and I think everyone should, taking into consideration the child's ability as well as the grandparent's. I want to mention that the cards have held up well even after all these years without being laminated. Buy it and have fun!

Trouble Board Game Review

(More customer reviews)I've been playing Trouble since I was a kid and it's still fun to play with my brothers and my niece. You push down on the middle part of the game with the dice in it and the dice will 'pop' and give you a number, telling you how many spaces to move. The first person to get their four pieces around the board and to their base, wins. If you land on a space where one of your opponent's pieces are already at, they will have to start all over with that piece. For that reason, some kids might get mad if they have to start over, but that's the only thing that I see that anyone wouldn't like about Trouble.
Playing Trouble can teach kids some counting skills and maybe even some sportsmanship after you teach them not to get mad because they're not winning everytime. Trouble is a lot of fun and I recommend anybody to get it.

(More customer reviews)This game is a variation of Parcheesi. Rather than rolling dice to move around the board, you draw cards with numbers on them. However, some of the cards also have alternate instructions...such as being able to switch places with an opponent, split the count between two pieces, or move backwards to sneak into your home without having to go all the way around the board. Even very young children quickly learn to take full advantage of these options. I especially like this game because it's one of the few young children's games in which an adult can play seriously without "accidentally" making mistakes and STILL be beat by the 5-year-old! Action-wise, it's a little bit slow, but, hey...it sure beats Candyland!CAUTION: This may be the first time your children encounter sabotage as a game strategy, and tempers may flare. One of the most educational aspects of this game is that it gives you plenty of chances to talk about good sportsmanship and not taking a game too seriously. :o)

(More customer reviews)This was purchased for my mother-in-law who lives in a nursing home. Her room mate received one and she wanted one too. It does all it says but once or twice is enough. Lots of sound and lights and movement. It would probably appeal to children and anyone who likes "country cute" decorations. Not sure how safe it is for children to play with. Probably not very durable for rough play. Not educational at all. It's just for fun.

I ordered it for a person who had a stroke and is unable to handle complicated games. This version of Parcheesi is much superior to the currently marketed other versions that I consider "junk" quality. Vendor was very prompt in delivery.

Don't Break the Ice Review

(More customer reviews)Games for small children are notoriously hard to come by. "Don't Break the Ice" is one of the few available and a classic in its own right.
My young son loves this game and we play all sorts of variations including moving the main ice piece that holds the bear to different places so we can experiment with the "physics" of the game. (So there is a true educational element.) We also try to put the ice pieces back in the frame using different patterns of insertion. This helps kill the time factor in getting the game pieces ready to play.
With its minimum of rules anyone can pick this game up in a minute. It's fun and can be played by "kids" of all ages. Given its low price, it's a no miss. Even if little children get more fun out of making the bear fall than not, so what? Think of it as a more versatile "hammer & peg bench" toy.
There are some durability issues. If one of the tabs that hold the ice breaks, you are out of luck. The frame consists of two pieces that slide together and the connection is prone to breakage. Still, at this price point it's a lot easier to replace than many of the fragile toys that cost far more. In fact you could buy every toy in the Milton Bradley "Cootie" line and still be under the cost of just one other plastic toy.
A good bet for a good price.

Chutes and Ladders Review

(More customer reviews)We ordered Chutes and Ladders for our four year old. He enjoys the game, but there are a few things that we don't like.
1.The child needs to be able to visually recognize the numbers 1-100, so that they know where to move. If your child, like ours, can't do this yet it becomes frustrating with having always to tell them where to move. It feels like you are playing for them. So, we play lots more Candy Land that Chutes and Ladders. So, this game probably isn't good for preschool children - unless you are willing to give them considerable help (which means no games played among just the children themselves).
2.The game pieces are made of cardboard that fits into little plastic stands. After several times of putting the cardboard into the stand the cardboad becomes compressed and will no longer stay in the stand. So, you will need to try to leave the stands on all the time, or you'll have to glue the pieces into the stands. Considering how classic a game this is and that families will play it for generations and hand it down, it would have been nice if they could have come up with better pieces (like the nice plastic pieces in Candy Land's anniversary edition).
3.In the last row of game play there are three chutes with only a couple of spaces separating them, which makes it VERY difficult for anyone to win and the game to be over. This gets annoying after a while and frustrating to little people.
So, we like this game, but it isn't our favorite. Be aware of your child's ability to recognize numbers and handle game frustration.
