(More customer reviews)I wasnt aware that these dolls are big because I can only see screenshots from Toys R us and not the actual doll from the store. A friend gave me this River doll as a gift and I was amazed on how big this doll is (12 inches to be exact). The figure itself is well made as well as the accessories. You can really tell that its high quality because of the materials used. Among other lines, this doll has the best hair style on other previous lines of River. Although its not that educational, I put three stars because their fashion sense help the kids to know about fashion, and whats hip and whats not, and what looks good in you and whats not.
I was shocked when I saw the price on this doll here in the Philippines. (...)

(More customer reviews)I have been collecting Barbies since I was fourteen-years-old and never purchased this one in the past. A few weeks ago I bought this off Ebay, and she is perfect for my collection.
The doll is beautiful and with her blonde bob, flapper dress, pearls, and shoes she captures the 1920s perfectly! Inside the box there is a paragraph detailing life in the 1920s, and a little story describing that Barbie is off to a flapper dance with Ken.
I highly recommend that you purchase these dolls as soon as possible because the Barbies in the Great Eras collection are getting harder and harder to find.

(More customer reviews)Basically, this box set includes a standard Ken doll (meaning he doesn't have moveable joints) dressed in a pink shirt, hip looking jeans, and gold sunglasses (so basically he looks like your average pop guy). He also comes with two modern looking outfits and a dark pink button sweatshirt. I think that the clothes are for the most part nice except for the pink button sweatshirt (I find the look of this item to be too effeminate for my tastes). The clothes in this box set can be worn by modern Ken dolls, and other 12" male dolls with a slim build, but the pants will not fit Mattel's Blaine dolls (if anyone remembers those). This box set allows buyers to mix 'n' match the clothing to create their own personalized looks.

Barbie as The Princess and The Pauper: Ken as King Dominick and Tutor Julian Doll (African American) Review

(More customer reviews)This is, according to our daughter, a great Ken doll. It has the bonus of coming with an extra outfit (in the same period style as the one shown). His hair has some sort of hair gel on it to keep it in place, which doesn't stay in place long with average usage, but doesn't ever look bad. The hair is a little "greasy" to the touch, though. Also nice is that fact that he does bend at the elbows and knees so he can be posed in somewhat natural (well, for a Barbie doll) way.

Ken has dual roles as King Dominick and tutor, Julian in the Barbie video "The Princess and The Pauper." Girls can act out the story with the doll and make costume changes for him. The outfit for King Dominick has a long, regal coat and vest with cravat, crown and high boots. The period-inspired costume for Julian the tutor is dark blue and includes accessories to help train the pauper to be a princess. Measures approximately 11.5" tall.

(More customer reviews)I must admit, out of the more than 30 Barbie dolls that my daughter has, this one is one of my personal favorites. I can remember trying to make my own barbie clothes as a child, but they never came out this great! You get to put your designs on her clothes using "stickers" that capture the beads that you "shake" in the container.
It is EASY. It is fun, and it is Barbie! It is colorful and any girl that loves Barbie will love this one.

She was bored with her Barbies but now she likes them more because she has a boy doll to interact with them, the same way she interacts with her friends who are boys at school. This doll has the rooted hair, so it's a better doll than the ones with the molded hair. That was important, because some of her friends wear mohawk hair styles and she likes to change things around on her dolls.

(More customer reviews)My granddaughter wanted to have a Ken so her Barbie could hang out with a male friend. Kens aren't that easy to find, and tend to be a bit more expensive than Barbies. I'd have preferred something less "boy-toy" than a beach-related Ken, but my grandchild loves this one. He's as well made as most Barbie products, and was instantly a hit.

Because of the growing number of celebrity dolls Mattel is producing, a new Timeless TreasuresTM line is created in 1999 within the Barbie Collectibles series of dolls. Celebrity dolls this year are removed from the Pop Culture and Hollywood Legends series. It is clear why Mattel chooses to do so by actually depicting the dolls as the original stars, not "Barbie as" characters. Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Desi Arnez are celebrities that are depicted up to 2001 and the James Dean American is released early in 2000 for the 2001 collection. Mattel recreates Dean as character Jim Stark in his memorable movie poster stance for the movie "Rebel Without a Cause". The only detail Mattel misses is the cigarette that Dean is shown holding in the movie poster. Mattel also "corrects" the image by placing the doll in a red jacket, not a blue one as depicted in the movie poster. Dean's character is seen wearing only a red one in the movie. The movie spoke for a huge generation of teens who found failure in providing the adequate father image, either in strength or authority. The movie follows the rebellious and troubled past that Dean's character Stark must face when moving into a new town.

However, this doll is touchable, I can remove her from the box for a closer look (the girls are only six), but they have the same love of the doll that I had at that age. This doll is a good example of a display worthy collectable. I am looking forward to years of enjoyment with this doll.
