ThinkFun Solitaire Chess Review

ThinkFun Solitaire Chess

I have purchased numerous ThinkFun games. Our favorites include all versions of Rush Hour, Sudoku, Clever Castle, Zingo, S'Match, and Chocolate Fix. I've tried a few others which we like, but those are my favorite. This is a new one to add to the favorite list! Having spent the summer learning how to play Chess, I am very excited that we can use the rules of the chess pieces to solve logic puzzles. It is really, really well done! The goal of each card is to have the chess pieces capture the other pieces until only one is left standing. The game is set up in a grid, so that you can look up the answers in the order at which you need to move the pieces. Ex. A2 moves to B4, etc. etc. The chess pieces are in a sliding drawer underneath the case which holds the challenge cards. Just beware, the cards are difficult to get out at first. It took some effort to slide them out.

ThinkFun Brick by Brick Review

This game is so much fun! I purchased it years ago, and raced through it! I am 23 years old, and still like to pick it up once in a while - it challenges me to this day. The cards you are given look easy, but as you work your way through the deck you realize it's not as easy as you think. People of any age group will find it fun, but addictive. As you play, you learn to visualize things in a new way, which is useful in real life. The back of the cards have hints in case you get stuck - one hint shows where a few pieces go; the other hint shows the rest. You can use whichever hint you feel you need more. All around, this is a fun game that doesn't take long to learn and can be enjoyed by everyone!

ThinkFun Rush Hour Ultimate Collector's Edition Review

We bought this game as a gift for my 11 year old who had already enjoyed the original version. The Collector's Edition has 156 puzzles. The only surprise was the size of the game itself. While the original version is portable for taking on trips, the Collector's Edition is a full size 15"x15" base with large pieces. There is a storage drawer for all the 156 cards. Overall a very good investment.

ThinkFun Hot Spot Review

We got this for our 6 year old but it is too hard for her. I think our 10 year old will like it more, if we can get her to try it.
I love how the game is self-contained- the game board serves as the case. So it would be good for travelling and easy to store. All of the components are very well made.
My only complaint are the cryptic instructions. My wife gave up on figuring out how to play so I gave it a chance. It took me almost an hour. We both have college degrees, so it's not like we're lacking in the brain department.
Overall the rules are simple; here are some clues that would have saved us some time...
-The pieces are only numbered for the sake of the solution instructions on the back of the cards
-all pieces can jump any way at any time, except diagonally and not when two large pieces end up next to each other
-the solution instructions on the back of the cards say the piece number (1-9, or X), and what direction it should jump, so "1R, XU" means to jump piece 1 to the right, and then jump the red X piece upwards.

ThinkFun Rush Hour Deluxe Edition Review

ThinkFun Rush Hour Deluxe Edition

I hate to give the one-star review to Traffic Jam, but the Deluxe version is really awful. (I have owned both the Deluxe version and the original version.) Apparently, Amazon also hates me to give a one-star review, too, as this is the third time I have tried to publish this 1-star review.
The board and playing pieces are exactly the same size and shape as the original version of Traffic Jam, but in the Deluxe version, the playing pieces have a metallic paint on them that chips off.
Also, in the original version, there is a little drawer beneath the playing board used for storing the cards, unlike the Deluxe version which has no storage drawer.
The original version comes with a carrying case, and the cards, board, and playing pieces all fit neatly into it. The deluxe version is not similarly portable, and the game board, cards, and playing pieces are stored in the flocked plastic molded insert inside the box.
So, while the game itself is still fun, challenging, and totally addictive, this "Deluxe" version is a real stinker when compared to the original!

We learned about Serpentiles from the grandparents and decided we needed a set for home. It is a great way to interact with your kids, see them solve challenging spatial problems, and enjoy the company of the entire family. We play it during breakfast on the weekends and it makes for a great discussion starter. Give it a go if you enjoy puzzles; you won't be disappointed.

ThinkFun Square By Square Review

My daughter (12) and I like to find new 'car' games. We keep a couple games in the car so when we go out to eat or end up some place where we have to wait, we have something to do. This game is the perfect size and is fun because the two of us can work on it together. It isn't too hard for the kid and just challenging enough to keep my brain occupied.
It is also a good one to play for a while and then put away for a couple months. That way it seems fresh.
Of course I would always like MORE puzzle cards to figure out, but for the price (and free shipping when this was written) - it is great! Cheaper than the store where we first saw it.

ThinkFun Rush Hour Review

ThinkFun Rush Hour
Average Reviews:

The concept is so simple it's ingenious. Drive your car in a straight line. But if you've ever been in NY during rush hour, you know that's not always easy. I am of course referring to gridlock, that bane of city traffic, when no cars can move. Well in Rush Hour, you get to move around all the cars and trucks to clear a path for yourself. The game comes with a set of cards (easily stored in the plastic tray) that show where to set up the cars. That takes a minute, but some of the puzzles take a long time to solve. They range from very easy to very hard. And Binary Arts sells extra card sets so the fun never ends! This game is sure to make a lot of kids into civil engineers. As for durability, you could probably throw this game out the window while driving on the highway, and it would be ok. Just better hope it's not rush hour!
