ThinkFun Rush Hour Jr. Review

For children who likes puzzles and mazes, this is a great find. To get the ice cream truck out of the traffic jam, the child must think on more than one level and more than one move ahead. Any wrong moves can be easily reversed and there is no penalty for wrong moves, only the thrill of solving the puzzle. Its great for solo play or for two to work together. The travel bag makes it a terrific "take along" toy -- as long as you have a flat surface on which to set up the board. My son is five years old and takes great pride in solving the simplest level puzzles. With a total of four levels of difficulty, I think we will be playing this game for some time to come.

We got this for our 6 year old but it is too hard for her. I think our 10 year old will like it more, if we can get her to try it.
I love how the game is self-contained- the game board serves as the case. So it would be good for travelling and easy to store. All of the components are very well made.
My only complaint are the cryptic instructions. My wife gave up on figuring out how to play so I gave it a chance. It took me almost an hour. We both have college degrees, so it's not like we're lacking in the brain department.
Overall the rules are simple; here are some clues that would have saved us some time...
-The pieces are only numbered for the sake of the solution instructions on the back of the cards
-all pieces can jump any way at any time, except diagonally and not when two large pieces end up next to each other
-the solution instructions on the back of the cards say the piece number (1-9, or X), and what direction it should jump, so "1R, XU" means to jump piece 1 to the right, and then jump the red X piece upwards.

ThinkFun Rush Hour Deluxe Edition Review

I hate to give the one-star review to Traffic Jam, but the Deluxe version is really awful. (I have owned both the Deluxe version and the original version.) Apparently, Amazon also hates me to give a one-star review, too, as this is the third time I have tried to publish this 1-star review.
The board and playing pieces are exactly the same size and shape as the original version of Traffic Jam, but in the Deluxe version, the playing pieces have a metallic paint on them that chips off.
Also, in the original version, there is a little drawer beneath the playing board used for storing the cards, unlike the Deluxe version which has no storage drawer.
The original version comes with a carrying case, and the cards, board, and playing pieces all fit neatly into it. The deluxe version is not similarly portable, and the game board, cards, and playing pieces are stored in the flocked plastic molded insert inside the box.
So, while the game itself is still fun, challenging, and totally addictive, this "Deluxe" version is a real stinker when compared to the original!
