Leonardo Puppet Review

Leonardo Puppet
Average Reviews:

This item is sold as a puppet and has a label on his hand proudly proclaiming, "I am a puppet!" but the only opening for your hand is sort of a flat pocket up the top half of the back of his scalp. You cannot manipulate his mouth, tongue, horns, nose, arms, legs or tail. I'm not quite sure what benefits a scalp pocket has over just moving his head with your hand. It is a very accurate depiction of Leonardo (the color of his fur is actually closer to his color in the book than the bright neon green it looks like here) and has very soft fur and is super cute, but it's not a puppet.

LEONARDO THE TERRIBLE MONSTER 14". Our Leonardo has a soft chenille, bean-filled body and a fabric pocket to make this monster a puppet. Try him out and you'll see that his floppy body is fun to move.

Original Memory Review

Original Memory
Average Reviews:

With 72 cards (36 pairs)I think this is a little more than most 3 year olds can remember. I suggest using only part of the cards and gradually increasing the number of cards as the child gets older--otherwise, they may become frustrated and give up. I agree with the reviewer who suggested that the cards should be laminated. I am not sure how long they will hold up if used much. The pictures are all familiar objects that preschoolers will readily identify, and it's a great game for spending time together.
Update February 17,2009: Yesterday we had this game out again. My 5 year old grandson and I enjoyed playing the game several times and I must admit we make our own rules as we play and I think everyone should, taking into consideration the child's ability as well as the grandparent's. I want to mention that the cards have held up well even after all these years without being laminated. Buy it and have fun!

Harold and the Purple Crayon Game Review

Harold and the Purple Crayon Game
Average Reviews:

This game is a hit with my 11 yr. old son, who has moderate to high-functioning autism, and also with his 4 yr. old sister. My son needs to work on his language skills, and likes to draw, so it is therapy that he likes! His sister also loves the game, and has no trouble remembering the story line as each person adds to the drawing/story board. The game/story is different each time, so it's interesting to me to play along with them. The cards with the drawings help children to expand their topics, which is an issue with most autistic kids. The gameboard wipes off better if you use a paper towel as recommended, then wipe off with a damp paper towel.

My kids (ages 6 and 8) love this game, and it is fun for adults, too. We bought it several weeks ago, and the kids still ask to play it often. It helps with teaching creativity, visuospatial skills, and problem solving. I think it would be ideal for groups or a party game. Plus, it's not too time-consuming. A family of 4 can play a game in 20 to 30 minutes tops. Our family loves this game!

Sequence for Kids Review

This game is the best. I tell all of my friends to BUY it for every kid on the list. The game can be played as the directions state or a variation. For the older child play memory or matching. My 2 year old loves to group the colors, simply identify the animals or sound, and match the cards to the board. This is my six year olds favorite game and has been since he received it for his 3rd birthday. Best of all it can be quickly replayed if the wrong person(mom) wins the game. The whole family will enjoy.Strategy, memory, and fun!!! As far as i can tell Toys R Us is the only place to buy this great game.

Cosmic Cows Review

Cosmic Cows

I just happened upon this game because my son (6 years old at the time) was really interested in aliens and ufo's. What a happy surprise! It's very easy to understand- can be played by two people or two teams - and the main idea is that there are two UFO's each trying to pull in cows from the middle. The little cows are adorable- and players roll dice to see which cow or combinations of cows can be sucked closer to their UFO. The first UFO to collect 3 cows wins the game. It's straightforward and moves pretty quickly- you won't be in it for marathon sessions like some other games. It's different from all of the other games out there and makes a perfect gift!

It's time for the Annual Extraterrestrial Cow-Pulling Contest, and aliens from all over the galaxy have come to watch the event! Go head to head with your cross-cosmos rival to see who can abduct three Cosmic Cows first! The number combinations that are rolled determine the movement of the cows, and each player can choose which tractor beam to use in order to abduct them. With a good mix of strategic offensive and defensive maneuvers, decide which combination of the unknowing bovines to pull toward your spaceship or away from your opponent's! The player that pulls three cows into their Win Zone first is the winner in this dicey game of alien tug-of-war!

Ka-Ching Review

I recently picked this up for several reasons: it's small, it's a card game, it's for two people, and it has received favorable reviews. All pluses in my book.
This is a very easy to learn card game, which is finished in 15 minutes. The cards are laid out in columns, only the top of each being available during play. Players receive money, and must buy the available cards. Cards are purchased at face value, so 2 sells for $[...], 5 for $[...], etc. When players have two cards of the same color they can be sold back at the multiplied value. So,if you bought a 4 and a 5 for 9 dollars, you can sell them for $[...]. And that's it.
It's all about trying to get high value cards, and at the same time spoiling your opponent's attempts to do the same (since you play open hands).
Good for math learning for kids, but a very good two-player adult game as well.

Compete against your opponent to turn the biggest profit by strategically buying and selling stock cards. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Cheese Touch Game Review

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Cheese Touch Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this game for our family of 4. It claims to be 3 or more players, but it has to be played with at least 4 people, and even that doesn't seem like enough people. It requires the players to write their answers on paper, and then guess who wrote them. In our family, it is OBVIOUS who wrote what, so it took some of the fun out of guessing. You have to act out some "LY" words too, which were EXTREMELY hard for not only the kiddos, but for us parents too. (Words like "painfully", "cowardly", carelessly"...) The concept of the game is fun, but actually playing it is difficult. You have to keep the directions close by so you can reference what to do for each card. Still is a bit confusing even with the directions being read at every turn. We have loved the books and the movie, so this game really caught our attention. If I could have peeked inside the box before I purchased it, I could have saved myself some money by not buying it.

My daughter has two of these sets now and really enjoys them. She loves any and all paper dolls, but these are among her favorites for their ease of use and durability. No more torn paper tabs or clothes that fall off the dolls as you play, and it takes minutes of prep instead of hours to start playing. These dolls inspire smart, creative play, and they transport easily too. Quality, well-made toy that will provide hours of fun and none of the frustration of traditional paper dolls.

Connect Four Fun On the Run Game Review

Connect Four Fun On the Run Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have enjoyed playing Connect Four Fun on the Run, but it's flimsy construction. The collection trays pop off repeatedly. In addition, the columns that store the checkers have lids that snap shut presumably to keep the checkers in place, but they continually pop off as well leaving checkers scattered in the box. The checkers are small, and are easy to lose. Hasbro doesn't offer replacements for the checkers, so you really have to be careful when playing. On the other hand, the price is so reasonable, it's entertaining, and I think instead of buying a duplicate I would buy the travel folio version with zip-up pouch.
Overall, I recommend this toy, but strongly suggest the game be stored in a plastic bag, as it doesn't hold up well to the bumps and bruises of travel with the trays, and lids popping off, and the checkers rolling all over the box.

UNO MOO Preschool Game Review

UNO MOO Preschool Game
Average Reviews:

My 3 year old daughter loves to play games, so when we saw this one, it went right on her Christmas list. And for as hard as it was to find this holiday season, I had high expectations. I was disappointed.
Here's my 2 cents:
-It is difficult to randomly pick a character from the barn when you can see what you are picking. We try having everyone close their eyes, but it doesn't really work!
-The haystacks surely won't last long, and if you are playing on the floor, they don't do much good anyways.
-The concept and packaging is great - love the fact that it is small and self contained. The less space it takes up in the closet the better!
The bottom line is that we don't play that this often (and we play a game every night). When it does come out, we usually don't have a successful game. If you are looking for a game that will teach the same rules (color/matching), I would suggest a children's deck of Crazy Eights...we were playing that when she was 2.5 and it was much easier and less frustrating than this game!
If you are looking for other good board games to play for a 3 year old, I would suggest Toy Story Yahtzee Jr, Sequence for Kids, and Zingo. Those are the big hits in our house!

Don't Break the Ice Review

Don't Break the Ice
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Games for small children are notoriously hard to come by. "Don't Break the Ice" is one of the few available and a classic in its own right.
My young son loves this game and we play all sorts of variations including moving the main ice piece that holds the bear to different places so we can experiment with the "physics" of the game. (So there is a true educational element.) We also try to put the ice pieces back in the frame using different patterns of insertion. This helps kill the time factor in getting the game pieces ready to play.
With its minimum of rules anyone can pick this game up in a minute. It's fun and can be played by "kids" of all ages. Given its low price, it's a no miss. Even if little children get more fun out of making the bear fall than not, so what? Think of it as a more versatile "hammer & peg bench" toy.
There are some durability issues. If one of the tabs that hold the ice breaks, you are out of luck. The frame consists of two pieces that slide together and the connection is prone to breakage. Still, at this price point it's a lot easier to replace than many of the fragile toys that cost far more. In fact you could buy every toy in the Milton Bradley "Cootie" line and still be under the cost of just one other plastic toy.
A good bet for a good price.

eeBoo Tea Party Game Review

eeBoo Tea Party Game
Average Reviews:

This tea party game was the favorite Christmas present this year. My daughter just turned 3 and loves this game. We can not go through a day without playing it several times. The table cloth is so cute and "girly". The pieces are very durable and well coated to avoid damage from a small spill. One time through the game, and my daughter had the rules down pat. (She still has some trouble with Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land etc., but picked this game up with no trouble at all.) Another great perk of the game is that my 3 year old can set the game up and pick it up all by herself!
I would highly recommend this game for any young girl, especially if she is even slightly prissy. It is so cute, even I couldn't wait to play!
